I was down that way the 1st week of May. A full 3/2 was fine. Water temp ran 84-86F and cenotes were at 75F and was never cold. As for other protection, I put on some safe sea on both exposded and un-exposed areas including under the wetsuit. I had no problems but my buddy who did not use it and was wearing a 3/2 shortie was eaten alive by sea lice. After putting some on after the fact it seemed to reduce the bites dramatically. You may want to pick up a bottle for the trip.

My wife & I just came back and had 14 dives with 2 being at night. I wore only my swim trunks, with the water temp being 80-82F I was very comfortable. My wife, who is usually cold wore her skin and never complained even on the night dives but did tell me later that she would have been more comfortable in her 3mm.

OK,
After reading all the posts, I am gonna take my 3 mil shorty just incase.

I think the difference in opinion may stem from our differing body compositions. I am 5' 10 and 220, so I am pretty well insulated, but not considered fat. I too an usually comfortable in my shorts alone, but I'll tell ya next week how it is... for me anyway.
