Looking to buy a Scubapro regulator setup for diving in NJ. I want a dependable reg, but at the same time, not "break-the-bank". Is the MK11 / R395 sufficient, or would in need at least a MK17 / G250V? Is there a big breathing and dependablility differnece between the two?

Disclaimer: I'm obviously not from New Jersey  . But....

If you can afford it, my choice would be the Mk17 / G250V. You may also want to "expand" you regulator search beyond Scubapro (Scubapro makes great regs, but so do a lot of other brands...).... a close "comparable" regulator would be the Zeagle Flathead IV, which was recently replaced by the Flathead 7. The Flathead VI's that are still in stock are being heavily discounted (sell for $360 I think), and are excellent regulators.

Have fun with whatever you choose.

Best wishes.

The MK11 and MK17 are nearly the same regulator with the exception the MK17 has a sealed ambient dry chamber and is designed for cold water use. If you are summer diving off NJ, the MK11 should suffice, but if you are diving water in the mid-40's and below, I'd recommend spending the few extra dollars for a regulator that is designed for cold water use.

Agreed - I'd go with the MK17
