I dive mostly in southeast asia, recreation diving. I dont plan on doing any ice diving any time soon. Brrr!
Choose your regulator based on available service, cost, and mainly personal preference. There are no really bad regs in todays market and the vast majority will do a good job in warm shallow water. Any of the mid range regs from any of the major brands will do very nicely for many years. Many of the lesser known brands are quite good as well but service and parts can be a problem.
I think what everyone is trying to steer you towards is that: A regulator is not selected on the divers potential air consumption. That boils down to the individual diver and conditions, not the regulator.
You should choose a regulator based on your personal comfort, the diving conditions and finally any brand preference you may have/what looks good to you.
Most people will tell you that most regulators are discerningly fairly equal in their performance from one another. There are certain brands and models that people absolutely swear by and are arguably "better" than others.
For warm water conditions "almost all" regulators are good enough. Components aren't prone to icing etc.
Therefore you should rather concentrate on your own personal comfort! Buy a reg that looks good to you, fits your price range, is easily serviceable in your area, is comfortable in your mouth and compatible with your BCD and tanks (A-clamp vs Din).
Of course if further down the line, as your diving habits change..... your gear my have to be upgraded.
