H2Andy:
i think most people say Atomic is good, but too expensive and hard to maintain

roughly the same with Poseidon
Expensive, yes, but hard to maintain? That's the dive shops problem, not mine. I don't see them being any different from any other company's reg as far as maintaining is concerned. Plus, you only have to have the better ones serviced every 2 years instead of every one. That means "easier to maintain" in my book.

hard to maitain meaning it's hard to find shops that maintain them,
or, rather, who service them

I read somewhere recently that the annual service is somewhate of a marketing scam to make money for the manufacturers. Most regs will perform just as safely if serviced once every two or three years. Of course since personal safety is involved most people play it safe, but what is the truth. Anyone who can shed light on this or heard the same?

I mean it is a beautiful business. You sell equipment that people depend on with their life. You "recommend" regular service and design as many exchangeable parts into the reg as possible. Nice way to support your business. I am not trying to make accusations, and i have not researched this. But I think I read some article a year ago on something along those lines.

Anyway, servicing is expensive in the long run. Like monthly line rental charges are the main cost of a cell phone and the cell phone are sold cheap.

Alex,
Mares is offering a lifetime service part policy for free. We are not making anything off the "service" parts of a regulator. If you break the housing or something outside the service kits, then of course you pay. Same as you would if you dented a fender on your car and had to get a new one. No different. The difference is I don't see Ford offering free spark plugs for life.

Best Regards.
Zak

ATOMIC :sappy: by far the best....EASY TO MAINTAIN....Service kits available to any authorized dealer (the same parts kit for all atomic regs).. service every two years...out performs all the others...if performance is what you want.

SCUBAPRO is hard to maintain due to the fact there aren't parts available for a lot of them.

On the cheaper side most underrated OCEANIC Alpha 7 & 8's

I think there's probably no discernable difference between the top-end regs of the larger companies. They all have breathing simulators, and most of them post the scores for work of breathing at depth. It's a buyer's market.

Excuse me while I pick my jaw up off the floor.

ScubaPro? Hard to maintain? Parts unavailable?

Am I on TV? I'm gonna kill Ashton Kutcher...

Big statement if all you are doing is dropping your regs at the shop for a tech to service.

I gave up after multiple attempts to get a set of MK25's serviced correctly...just my experience.

What world are you on? Agreed that Atomic is easy to fix and maintain as well as Spro, but for finding a LDS that does Atomic compared to Spro is the hard part. Spro is more widely spread than Atomic........for now.

Alex, I agree with Zak. Most manufacturers have free parts replacement plans, Aeris included.
Even so don't you want to clean the salt off, have the internal parts visually checked for damage or unusual wear, tune the reg, etc? Or are you just wanting more options as to who and how your regulator is worked on?

As for top regs I always have liked getting my hands on every reg I can. By the time I figure out what I like best I have my eyes on something new, lol. I guess regs are my favorite piece of dive equipment.
