Adam,
You are so correct. That damn swivel never worked well under pressure. The Z2 and Miflex is a perfect combination.

If you can very well afford the T2X, then by all means buy it so as to have that feeling, including the bragging rights of having the most expensive regulator in the market. Just imagine yourself in this scenario: you are in the process of setting up your gear preparatory to a dive, some of your regular buddies/divemaster/ or even your instructor, would tell everyone around that your regulator is the most expensive brand and model in the market. Some of them will then mill around you, ask you if they can take a closer look at your T2x. You'd see in their faces their admiration over your regulator, as well as wonder why its the most expensive in the market. Some of your dive buddies would, in the course of the dive, even ask you to let them try its performance underwater, which you would then oblige by handing your primary 2nd stage T2x and switching to your back-up/2nd stage octopus.

Same same... I have B2's, and ditched the swivel hose for a MiFlex (I posted step by step instructions and pics somewhere on the board a couple years ago in making the switch, since you need to add a jamb nut (spacer) when you swap out the swivel). The swivel is useless when the hose is charged... Love the B2's...

My rationale for owning a T2.

1. I buy the best I can afford in most activities I participate in. Why should I settle in diving?
2. It's 7/10ths of a lb. lighter. I fly everywhere I dive and carry-on my regs. As well as u/w video gear and other stuff. If domestic airlines ever start checking carry-on weight, I'm almost certainly over. It's also advantageous on overseas flights since carry-on allowances are often less. After multiple flights it maybe makes lifting my roller bag slightly easier. I bought a lightweight bag for the same reason - why not maximize the result with lighter gear.
3. My w/i BC/tank end'od off a tailgate recently - the yoke on the knob side took the impact on a concrete curb. Wasn't even scuffed. 5mins. later I dove it. Would a chrome over brass 1st have had the same result? Or would it have bent since Brass is softer? Probably not but IDK...
4. Ti is lighter and doesn't corrode - afaik never. I only dive saltwater so that's a consideration. I also plan to be using this reg for a long time - my previous chrome/brass 1st pitted after some years.
5. I'm terrible about maintenance. On a couple of occasions I've left my gear until weeks after I returned from a trip. The T2 looks as good as new. The last time I had it serviced the tech told me the only reason he changed the parts was since it was already apart.

My swivel works fine when the hose is charged. I often adjust it during a dive. When I get it just right I almost forget it's there. My previous B1 didn't have a swivel and I noticed some pull - and maybe a little jaw fatigue during longer dives. I dive the standard length hose.

I saw a Cobalt demo'd a few weeks ago. As soon as they develop a wristmount I'm buying one. The OLED display is excellent.

If I hadn't bought the T2, I probably would have bought an ST1. Stainless and slightly lighter. Although now I'd look hard at a Z2x since it has the 2nd stage swivel. Atomic says on their site that Zirconium over Chrome over Brass is more durable than Chrome over Brass.

For what reason?

1. Really no difference in breathing I could discern.

2. M1 are "officially" rated for up to 80% O2 so can be used in various configurations from back gas to stage bottles. You absolutely cannot use a T2X beyond 40% O2.

The difference is in the 1st stage construction/materials between the various regs. If I had a do over, I would likely swap the T2X for M1's with Monel.

A basic brass reg can last a lifetime as long a PM is performed and you clean it properly so really no need to spend a lot of money. The cost of a T2X does not represent "better quality", it represents the technical difficulty in machining a piece of titanium alloy vs monel, stainless steel, or brass.

Which ever reg you purchase, consider the environmental seal kit on the 1st stage - Some Atomics come with it installed and some do not (M1 and T2x do)

The swivel is no big deal - a 2nd stage with a 7' primary hose or miflex hose does not require a swivel.

I transitioned from single tank/T2x -> doubles/side mount/M1's, -> CCR with bailout bottle and 40%+ Nitrox/M1's

I vote for M1 + Shearwater Predator SA vs T2x

how about both T2x and Cobalt?:D

Air Integration is way overrated...

1. As you start to dive regularly, you will quickly identify a specific target depth, where if you dive deeper, your dive will be determined by NDL time and if you dive shallower, you dive will be determined by how much gas you have. For me, with a steel HP120, its about 65'.
2. AI computers can fail high just as easily as failing low - Happened to me.
3. If there is a problem with the hose or the computer, you have lost both your dive computer and your SPG.

I recommend a standard SPG and a wrist mounted computer.
