Oslo, Norway!
Within 24hrs there is Wrecks in Åland, Mines i Finland and Sweden, Caves i Norway, Wrecks all along the coast of Norway. The only cold water corals within recreational diving depths in the world (AFAIK). Caves in France. Within Norway: Wrecks in the Oslofjord, Kristiansand, Mandal, Bergen, Gulen, Ålesund, Bremanger, Trondheimsfjord, Mo i Rana and Narvik.

(seriously... who likes sweating in the sun anyways...)

Good thread. At this point in my life, I want easy, so Mediterranean for me, ideally a spot with good shore diving. We all know fish stocks have been decimated, but the generally benign conditions, warm water (in summer) and good visibility is attractive to me. What's better than rocking up to a dive site in your car, putting your kit on and jumping in the water. Boat diving is a hassle!

Melbourne, Australia.

Visited there once, regret ever leaving.
I was able to visit 3 times in the early 2000s, and the wife and I considered a move there. Kinda wish we did.

How is the diving there? San Diego isn't so bad

if you had to pick a place to live and couldnt dive anywhere else where would it be? -lets say you can go to within a days drive travel range from where you choose - what are your reasons for choosing
galapagos

Somewhere in the Indo Pacific where there are no shell collecting laws.

Sand flies :(
I live and work in Roatan, Honduras, and moved here 7 years ago from Southern California. After living here for a while, I've noticed that the noseems or sand fleas tend to bother tourists more than they bother the residents (LOL). I work as a professional photographer for Turquoise Divers at Turquoise Bay Dive and Beach Resort, which allows me to access boats and go diving every day of the week. I love the fact that Turquoise Divers has operations on both sides of the island, which means we can dive 365 days a year. The two sides of the island are very different from one another, and there is more than 1K dive sites around the island, with a new one every 100 yards. Compared to other Caribbean locations, the reef here is in good shape. Since moving here, I have had the opportunity to do 4K dives, and I have taken over 100K underwater photos and videos. It's a tough job, but someone has to do it (LOL).
