Alright, I'm very close if not done with sorting this all out. I booked 6 nights at the Westin and will soon call Neptune's to see about diving. I figure that we'll be halfway to chillaxin on GC, then 9 days on LC for true quiet relaxation. I booked (but haven't paid for yet) a private bungalow at Southern Cross Club as well as the diving there. All in (room, taxes, meals, 2 tank diving everyday) for 9 nights and 8 days of diving it's a whopping $6762.

Looking at "The Club" prices on their site, it might actually be cheaper than staying at SCC, but as you say, Damselfish, condo life on LC may not be very convenient. You guys think I should still look at other options, or just screw it and drop the dough on what I think will be a pretty nice stay at SCC?

Also, are there any other operators besides Neptune's I should look into on the West End? Basically, I just want a diveop who handles photography equipment well and gives you BT based on your own air consumption and needs.

I'm a big fan of Southern Cross Club, so am admittedly biased. I really think you'll find SCC a much more intimate dive experience with better personal service and greater flexibility on the part of the dive staff to meet your needs than if you stay at the Club.

That being said, I really don't know how SCC is operating since Gustav took their dock away. The only people from LC at DEMA were from LCBR, and they told me they had repaired their dock but that the SCC dock was history. That truly saddens me, because I enjoyed many a Friday night happy hour out there on Peter's dock.

I stayed at the Club in January, 2008. Its a hundred yards from all the conveniences of the LCBR. We did our meals and drinking there and then returned to peace and quiet at the Club. It was the perfect mix of fun and quiet.

If at Westin,go across the street to Eat's sports bar for a drink at night, and lunch after diving. A lot cheaper than Westin.

I agree Neptune Divers is great. Enjoy. John

I wrote to SCC about the dock and here's what they said:

We had taken up the planks ahead of Gustav but the outer pilings were still uprooted in the big surf and need(ed) to be refooted. However, our fishing boat dock (newer and stronger) came through unscathed and that's the dock we'll be using for our divers until the dive boat dock is rebuilt (which they are in the middle of doing as I write...it may even be complete by the time you visit.)

Your daily diving should not be affected whatsoever.

So, no problemo?

Bump.

Just wondering if anyone who's been to Southern Cross Club knows whether or not going to-fro the fishing dock for diving excursions will be convenient or a PITA. Please advise :)
