I've done a ton of reading on what to buy, now I don't know where! Looking at Dive-Inn but want to get more input about buying from an authorized dealer. This question seems to always lead to a complicated meltdown.......I'm just looking for current simple info.

Do you think the initial savings is worth giving up the free parts replacement?

I'm in the same boat you are. I think apeks are the way to go just not sure where to go for good deals from authorized dealers.
My current regs have been giving me problems every few dives and i'm tired of messing with them.

Go to divetheabyss.com and get them there.. He is also tmmcon on ebay.. Thats where I get all my Apeks stuff from..

I wouldn't tell you to go one way or the other, but since you are already on the fence I'd say run the numbers and see where the break even point is. How much can you get the parts kit for a first stage and how much would two parts kits be for the second stages?

Edit: It looks like the first stage kits are about $25-$30, and the second stage kits are $15-20/each. So averaging those prices I get $62.50/year for parts for one first stage and two second stages. Continuing my assumptions and excluding tax, if you will use these regs five years, then you'd want to save $312.50 on the DiveInn/LeisurePro price from the Aqualung list price less 10% that a dealer could sell you the regs for within their Aqualung dealer agreement terms.

FWIW, I went the other way (since I won't be working on my own regs anytime in the near future) and got my new regs from an authorized Aqualung/Apeks dealer during their big "No MAP" sale last month.

Thanks for doing the math on that. I'm shocked, but it looks like with my club discount the LDS will sell me the reg for only $100 more than Dive-inn so I'm really leaning that way now also. With your math, a hundred bucks to guarantee free replacement parts seems a bargain.......I don't plan on working on my own regs either.....

Cheers...

Looks like I get to do a little driving to a not so Local DS :D. Thanks for the info.
