Hello,

My Wife and I was going to goto the keys middle of June and afraid to go with the oil coming into the keys. So we thought maybe the virgin Islands since it is to short of a notice for a passport.

We are looking for some place with some easy diving we are just OW and new to diving. would like to find somewhere that is all inclusive. Thanks in advanced for all your input.

A couple of options:

afaik the only diving AI on St. Thomas is Bolongo Bay. Bolongo Bay Beach Resort
St Thomas Diving Club is located onsite.

Diving off the East End was shallow and interesting. We dove Grass Cay one morning with DiveIn a few years ago, they're located at Sapphire Beach condos. Nice looking, slightly older resort, nice beach, IIRC there was a shore dive there also, but they're not (afaik) an AI.

Over on St. Croix, the Divi Carina Bay has on-site diving and restaurant options. Not an AI though afaik. AA flies there directly. Welcome to Carina Bay Beach Resort, St. Croix - Divi Resorts

You could also go to St John for the day - there's several diveops - and a car ferry. Need the passport for the BVI's though.

Passports can be obtained in a same day service. Pay a few bucks, stand in line.

Just an idea.

I realize it is already past mid-June, but I just saw this post, and thought I would put in a word for scuba diving with Dive BVI http://www.divebvi.com/ at Virgin Gorda. They have a dive shop at Little Dix Bay which is the closest thing to an AI in the Virgin Islands, but alcohol is not included http://www.littledixbay.com/

Much of the diving in the VI is easy diving, with reasonably healthy colorful coral beginning at 25' or so. A fair number of wrecks, too. Mostly boat dives, but there are a few places where a shore dive is possible.

The "Chimney" dive site off Great Dog is a very colorful site:

And the wreck of the Rhone is considered to be one of the best wreck dives in the Caribbean:

The sunken airplane at Coral Gardens off Great Dog is interesting:

And I think it is hard to beat the snorkeling at Mahoe Bay:

That is also a good place for an easy shore dive:

We decided not to take the trip. We are going to wait until Feb. took some of the money and signed up for all my classes from OW to Rescue, EAN, and bought 4 tanks.

But thanks for all the good ideas we may look into some of your suggestions for feb. will also have passports by then.

Good decision, Less problems with weather then. But the visibility is better in August.

When you go you will not of course, be bringing your own tanks and weights. All divers simply rent them there. The airline will not allow tanks on the planes, and nobody want to pay for the weights to fly.

I know you knew this I am just making sure. The first time I traveled I was thinking we had to bring everything so I assume most folks are as ignorant as I. I=:dork2:

Maybe we will see down there then We might be on our second trip taping season three by then. We will be aboard our own sailboat.
