I've asked enough silly questions on this forum that one more won't matter -

I've been looking at very small weight pockets to attach to the belt of my harness. Some call themselves ditchable, and some state that they are not. I cannot tell the difference.

Is there something I'm not seeing? Why isn't every pocket considered ditch-able? If you can get the weight in, then you can get the weight out. Sure, I can see that it would be easier if you just had to pull a tab and the bottom of the pocket fell out, but are top loading pockets all that hard to empty, as these small pockets have a max capacity of 5 lbs?

FYI - in case anyone else is interested in what's available in small pockets, the ones I've seen so far include:

DR Clipper Pocket
OMS BCA269
Brownie weight pocket BCK-POC
Sea Pearls XS Baggage weight pouch
Trident WB10
Zeagle

as i understand it (and i am not sure i'm right), "ditchable" means that the
entire pocket can be removed and released easily. in other words, you don't
have to open them and remove the weight. you just yank on the pocket and
it comes off, with the weight inside.

non-ditchable means that it is securely attached to your kit somehow. the
only way to get rid of the weight is to open the pocket, take the weight out,
and ditch it.

to sum up: if you can ditch the whole pocket, it's ditchable. if you have to
open it to get the weight out, it's non-ditchable.

basically, ditchables save you a step

and one thing, amke sure it comes off in a hurry, if it's of any use you better not be fiddling with catches, one pull and it should be loose in your hand,

Since the ditching function is usually coincident with some sort of crisis I'd think that very few simple distinct motions would be in order. Flip a buckle, yank a handle or 2 stuff like that. It's contribuition to task loading should be minimal.
