Yes you will. Everyone I know who has gone over to CCR has never come back.

Yah, but what would I loan out to the buds for a grand then? Defineatly not the CCR. :D

We do weekend trips all the time with only 2 sets of doubles. We each bring 2 sets of decompression bottles and with double 104's and a good fill I can get in 2 dives in the 180 - 200 ft range. It's cold and my wife has about had it after 20 minutes on the bottom anyway. With the addition of a stage we could do 2 long dives. An extra al 80 stage is cheaper and easier to find room for on the boat than an extra set of doubles. In fact on this boat it's what you have to do if you need more than one set of doubles because there isn't room for every one to bring 2 sets. On the last trip on the lakes my wife got wet and was too cold for a second dive and the other guy we were diving with didn't have enough gas left so I lost out anyway.

Stages stretch your back gas.

Time for a rebreather and 6 pony bottles :)
Good point.
I'll add it to my "excuse" list... you know, the one you use with the bride when getting the next dive-thingy you can't live without :)

OK the doubles are mine. He agreed to sell them. $100 per tank which are used, plus $100 each for the bands and for the manifold which are essentially brand new.

When you have a wife and teen kids and you own a dive shop you just dont have time to go tech deco diving anymore. :)

I never thought that two sets of double tanks would ever be insufficient for my type of tech deco diving. Soon I will have 4 sets. :)

I just bought my 3rd set a week ago. Plus all the deco bottles lying around (7 total), plus my wife's tanks (another 4), the place is starting to look like a hydro test facility. Have to agree with some of the other posts in this thread....it's time to start seriously thinking RB.

Triton --- Two sets is just the base. Four sets is really what's needed. plus 8-10 stage bottles. First off there is no one pefect set of tanks. So different sets for different dives are appropriate. The more varied your exposures the more tanks.

My favorites for 150 fsw and shallower -- LP85s great gas supply, 7 inch diameter, in salt water with full gear i use an additional 6 lbs of ballast.

151-225 fsw Faber 108s ....... fat tanks 8 inch diamter with helium i add 8 lbs of weight.

225-325 fsw Faber 121s.........fat tanks 8 inch diamter with helium i add 10 lbs of weight

Personal sets are:

4 sets of 85s
2 sets of 108s
2 sets of 121s

Stage bottles are all Luxfer aluminum and dedicated to a specific gas and are never *******ized. They stay dedicated.

4 80s for 36% EAN
4 80s for 50% EAN
2 80s for 100% 0xygen

4 40s for 50% EAN
6 40s for 100% oxygen

It's not uncommon for the 85s to just have air or nitrox 32 in them. The 108s get 17/50 trimix and the 121s get 15/60 trimix. I keep all my personal tanks filled in the rack ready to rock. Sometimes I get an opportunity to take off today and go do something and i dont like to have to stop to fill up. When tanks come back from a dive they get filled right away. FWIW I always had lots of tanks even before I was in the "tank business."

For single tank No-stop dives I use LP95s they work great with my dry suit or 9 mill semi dry. 3 or 5 mil suits with singles are Alum 80s ..

Tanks are cheap in the long run. Once you get them they hold value and will last a very long time. In 15 years of tech diving I have only had 3 tanks fail hydro and all of those had more than 1000 dives on them. The expensive part is the real estate they take up in the shop.

Regards,

I only use 1 set of doubles for a weekend of diving!

When your friends tell you that they want to do an entire weekend of repetitive deco diving, and you dust off your extra set of doubles (your third set in the closet), which when together with your two working sets of doubles, gives you 3 sets of twin tanks filled with trimix, then you know that two sets of doubles is not enough.

I called one of my old friends, who owns a scuba shop, and hardly ever goes diving anymore, except on vacation once a year in the tropics with his wife and kids, and I asked him, "You know that set of doubles that you have not used in awhile? Can I buy them off you? Wanna sell them?"

I never thought that two sets of double tanks would ever be insufficient for my type of tech deco diving. Soon I will have 4 sets. I suppose it all depends on your diving buddies and how wild about scuba they are! :)

Come to the "Dark Side" Luke. You know in your heart you want to!! :icon28:

I have a Dive Rite BP and wing that I use with a PST 120 and H-valve when I do OC instruction. I have a set of OMS 120's with Highland Millworks bands that are literally gathering dust.

When I go diving, I have my YBOD (now BBOD) and a couple of 40's for sling bottles. Shure cuts down on the amount of kit required! Cuts down on the cost of helium too!

Cheers!

Holy S*** Joel. Now at least I don't feel so bad for having half my garage taken up with tanks.
