What's your knife preference for diving. a.k.a. show off your knives.

So, have we figured out who has the biggest "knife"?

Again, I'm more than a little fascinated about the cultural divide across the pond. Y'all on the left side of the pond seem to regard a knife as a weapon. As do some left-wing urbanites over here, too, but I'm digressing. Again. But generally, a knife is just a tool over here. That's why I carry a 15cm/6" blade knife on my calf. It's my multitool, and fending off aquatic critters is pretty low on my list of things i use my knife for.

I have plenty of knives that I use as tools topside. I just don't need one underwater over here, just a simple cutting tool

I don't think it's as much a weapon as it is a phallic symbol for a lot of folks.

I can only think of one time where my dive knife saved my life. Back in the 80's I was freediving for abalone off California's north coast in thick kelp. I had an ab iron in my hand and my huge Voit knife strapped to my right leg.

I was surfacing with an ab and my snorkle was about 6 inches from breaking the surface when I felt kelp strands cinch tight around my left ankle. I was brought to a jarring stop just below the surface. I tried reaching down to break the kelp but it would not break. I pulled my left fin strap off and kicked my fin off hoping the kelp would slip over my heel. It did not. At this point I had already been on a long freedive so I was running out of air fast. I reached down one more time and grabbed my BFK then cut the strands. I rose that last six inches at the last possible moment as I felt like I was about to black out. I do not dive without a knife. As for use of a knife for protection, if the landlord wants to eat me a knife really won't be of much use. My 2psi.

I consider knives tools, and I probably only need a small one, let's say similar size to my folding knife.
My problem underwater is that in order to have good control I need a bigger handle that the ones in small knives.
I've been using this one for the last 15 years or so.

All right, so I had to do some work under water and unexpectedly I needed a saw. A proper saw. But I did not bring my own and hence I was given this piece of (no it does not work).

Anyway, my tool is bigger than yours
