I just picked up an older AL tank (free on Craigslist - I wanted the tank harness). The numbers indicate it's a Norris aluminium. DOT-SP6688-3000. HY-8323. 10 ◊ 73. Rehydro'd 8 89 and on the opposite side BX 6 A 83 (re hydro).

If I took it in for a Hydrostatic test, I'd probably be charged for the test and it would still be condemned. I don't want to waste my money. So, what do most people do with a condemned tank?

Yes good move on not having it hydro tested its on the list of Cylinders to be condemned without inspection. So what Tbone said make a decoration out of it or scrap it.

I'm not against making a decoration or reg display out of an old Al SP tank (or any old tank), I've recycled a few I had because they were more problem than I want to deal with, however I know of no cylinder that can be condemned without inspection, and with a hydro and VE many SP Al tanks are still in service.

This SP was not renewed so it would be illegal for the hydro shop to requalify it. So yes its an instant condemnation no test or inspection required.

The inspection would determine that the SP was not renewed so that the hydro shop could then condemn the tank.

Bob, who is you visual inspection cert with maybe different standard!

And why would the OP pay someone to do that?

I've never been charged for a condemned tank. Since I did not know the SP was not renewed, I would have sent it in.

Read my post, I would assume (bad on me) that a hydro shop would start a visual inspection by determining what tank they are dealing with by reading the stamped information.
