I just love how everyone here is psychic! So many people who have never talked to Catherine OR her repair tech, just *know* exactly what the story is. :shakehead
Good grief people, even calling the repair tech dishonest.

This is really getting quite disgusting.

she claimed he worked at the lds and if she went to lds its 30% more..how did she meet up/find the guy??If it was at the lds and he told her his deal its not very ethical. If it was elsewhere not as bad but I still feel he should do his work for her thru the lds.Where is he getting his parts? Is it thru the dealership of the lds?He is only contributing to the lds failing in business by doing this.

No..the shops send their stuff out. He has been here 35 years, he is in the phone book under "scuba repair".

He went to the repair school back when it was a very long course.

"How did I get hooked up with him?" Do you think it should be a secret who works on your reg? Great that will be the next thing....MSR, and mystery techs.

He was here LONG before any of these shops.

I still feel he should do his work for her thru the lds.Where is he getting his parts?

With all due respect, I cannot relate to this. I advocate for myself, and my ethics tell me to take my "life support system ;) " to the man himself and not have a bunch of shop employees in the chain of possession of my reg.

I could not care less if he is an authorized dealer...I know he is competent and I like seeing a repair bench, myself.

Like I said, if you bring something to the table for me, I'll be the first one in your door, being the opportunist that I am....

I believe I am seeing some repair techs who are not shop employees but work as independent contractors supporting a number of shops. If they have the wherewithall and the parts sources, and no legal contractual agreements are being violated, why shouldn't they take on some work on the side if it meets the customer's needs. Only real problem seems to be that the middle man loses his skim. Tony would probably have to have a word with him at the Bada Bing.

I personally like the SP product...but I have never seen anybody have one to fail, seriously. They are bulletproof. .

Really?

check out this MK-20 (see below pic). NOAA issued a "stop use" order on all MK-20's after it cracked on a couple of theirs.

Now to be fair about their product though, it was found this was from the result of over-torquing during service. It was a design flaw that allowed this to happen though. ScubaPro did a recall of 48,000 MK-20's. The fix was to install a kit to keep it from being over-torque'd. I'm sure they changed the design after this on newer models.

Still a serious failure that if happened while diving would result in inadequate amount of air to breath off the 2nd stage.

What's LP's price for air? You guys better start buying your own compressors from LP because if you keep this up there won't be any local dive shops to fill tanks, or they will have to charge $15 for an 80cf fill to stay in business. Won't that be nice?
If they charge $15 for air, then they won't be in business very long. I don't think many people would be willing to pay that much. I could buy a compressor for the cost of 100 air fills at that price, and it would be much more convenient to fill my tanks in my garage instead of driving to the lds.

Just hook the compressor up near your bathtub and you wouldnt need to go to the LDS for Air, or go outside your bathroom for diving....you could use your bathtub all day and night, never leaving the water for a fill:rofl3: I love that pic...tell me that was at 3am or something involving a bet and alcohol

That is where I do most of my diving. It is amazing how long an aluminum 80 will last at a max depth of 6 inches. It does make deco stops a bit more difficult though.

wow..nice picture.

still, the chances of a 19 yr old ding-dong messing up my reg is still a bigger fear for me. A "real" repair guy is not to be found in any dive shop on Oahu. Oh yea, they have some kids that went to a two hour thing at DIMA,...I'll pass.

I realize shops are better elsewhere...

I just find it easier to sidestep them than to always have a complaint.

it's my "solo" nature.

Warranties? You guys must be living on another planet than I do....I don't use warranties for anything. Are you seriously collecting on warranties? For me they are like factory rebates....too much hassle.

This is a good point. But others are very anal about this.

Buying the compressor is just the start. Do you know how much the filters cost? How about how much the air analysis cost to make sure you BREATHING good air? In my neck of the woods, electricity is not free either.
