Apeks DS4/TX50 (or newer versions) seems to be prefered in the DIR community.

I've been more than happy with my Dive-Rites and Salvos so far - you can find some very good deals on those.
 
Chris, if you get into tech diving, then you'll need at least 3 regs, and you'll probably end up with more, which is why a lot of tech divers service the regs themselves. So if that's the road you'll take, then make sure the service manuals and kits are readily available and reasonably priced. That's one of the main reasons I chose my Dive-Rites and Salvos. I don't know anything about the Beuchats.
