I didn't re-new my Rodales subscription about 2 years ago and they're still coming. I might read an article or two in each one but they soon go in the trash.

Dive Training and Alert Diver get read.

My very favorite is www.advanceddivermagazine.com
Not for a newby but has to be the best magazine available.

I also get Rodales free, so I read it. I get Skin Diver too. Not bad. Also Alert Diver because of my DAN membership.
And I pick up Dive Training when I see it.
I also get the Undercurrents newsletter delivered.
Geez, I never realized I get so many until I listed it here.
:)

I also read Alert Diver (DAN membership)
I let my subscriptions run out on the others.
To many ads, not enough diving

I read dive training, sport diver, rodales, and skin diver. I like all the information and even the ads.. Nice to see what's out there.

Exactly. There's always something of interest in the magazines each month, be it gear or travel info. I get Dive Training and Rodale's free for six months from classes I have taken. Sport Diver I pick up if it looks interesting on the newsstand. I get (was getting?) Skin Diver after getting a years subscription for $5 off ebay. I also just got a 2 year subscription to Rodales off ebay for $17 when my six month class freebie runs out.

I'm a relatively new diver so I like to read both Rodale's and Dive Training. I think Rodale's has some decent product reviews and interesting articles on certain locales around the world. I like Dive Training for its high content (not as many ads) with lots of practical topics. Both are very informative reads for me.

Maybe once I have a few years of diving under my belt, I might want something a little more advanced. My buddy subscribes to Undercurrent, but I haven't read any of those yet.

Thx...Doug

I think the best mag for beginners is Dive Training.
Undercurrent is the Consumer's Report for diving.
Rodale's is ok for showing you what's available on the market (gear, destinations, etc.)

I subscribed to Rodales when I started diving, and I still get it...it still has a few interesting articles, but overall it seems like a big advertisement for dive operations in tropical locations.

As part of my DAN membership, I also get the Alert Diver magazine...I usually glance through it but find it pretty boring most of the time.

Oh, and I just have to say that Rodale... if you're American, maybe you would appreciate it. But it is too commericalized. Of course magazine content is dictated by the advertisers and a lot of them are from Bahamas, Carribean, etc... but perhaps because of their international circulation, they should add more content on Asia and Europe, Africa too.

Their gear review is good, I think, but a lot of Germans think their magazine is better... I don't know because I can't read German anyway. :)
