The basic problem is salt is corrosive. I live 1000 feet from the Atlantic Ocean and I leave my gorilla garden cart outside on a covered porch. A gorilla cart lasts 2 - 3 years before the front doesn't turn easily and the handle corrodes off. My wife has a couple of planters made from the plastic bed of gorilla carts.Stupid question, but has anyone considered trying to find or make a cart that could be immersed in saltwater? Obviously I could find something foldable and take it back to the car, but it would be cool if I could have a cart that I could just take into the water with me and sand anchor it.
Potential issues: anchor failing, cart moving around in the water and hitting people (in this case, perhaps a floating cart), probably difficult to find wheel bearings that work with saltwater immersion.
Maybe this is crazy / dumb but it's a thought...
If you actually dragged a cart into the ocean, the only hope you would have is treating it like a boat trailer and doing regular maintenance. I am not sure anyone wants a high maintenance cart and if they didn't want to do the maintenance they could turn it into planters after a handful of uses.
