Hmm... several possibilities there. Digging in now. Didn't mean to ask folks to Google for me, I expected there were scuba-specific solutions. I'm on the hunt now. Thank you all!

We are just waiting for you to be the first to try them so that we can decide what to get for ourselves :P

That's why I said my requirements were a bit different. Not everyone cares that the cart can be collapsed and checked as baggage.

This thread has suddenly become more important to us.

My wife has some mobility issues resulting from (now removed) tumors in her cervical spine.

Congratulations on the successful surgery - you guys are still diving together!

The idea of a wheeled contrivance to massively simplify this is extremely appealing. The one catch: We have to take it on the airplanes to and from. This means something lightweight, collapsible or foldable, rugged enough to withstand baggage handlers and systems, yet with balloon-type tires to handle the fine sand in the Caribbean.

Any ideas out there?

A beach worthy cart that’s also air transportable might be a unicorn. The wheels are probably the design limitation.

You may simply have to adjust your diving destinations.

If you also have one of the tire inflator attachments that connect onto a bcd inflator hose, you can deflate a balloon tire for travel and pump up the tires at the dive shop/ fill station. It won’t help much with weight, but will reduce packing bulk.

Pack it separately and check it in as a “child stroller” or “mobility assistance device”. Not dishonest in the circumstances. These are normally carried for free.

@TNEngineer

You might reach out to these folks to research a solution. We have the Bimini Cart and it’s a treat. Not inexpensive stuff but very well built and makes easy work over rough terrain.

The Foldit Cart (yacht/marina cart by Tipke Manufacturing) that I referenced in post #17 is great for hard surfaces but wouldn’t survive air travel without a purpose-built soft or hard case.

I thought about deflating balloon tires, but the wheel width would still make for serious volume. Still better than not deflating them.

I love the idea of the "mobility device" that's carried for free. Excellent suggestion!

I have a Beach Fishing Cart, Beach Wagon Trolley with 12" Big Balloon Wheels for Sand Foldable, that I bought on Amazon. It is no longer available on Amazon under the brand I bought, but the same cart under a different brand is available on Walmart.com. It's light enough to take on a plane.

I keep a couple of bungee cords in the mesh bag. The bungees can secure 2 tanks and a few other items on the cart. The mesh bag is very useful and you can put a lot of stuff in it, like a regulator bag, fins, towel...
