I am an environmentalist & still cannot get over the guilt that I own a CAR! For the 1st 7 years I lived in Los Angeles, I rode my bike & the bus. Then I heard about a co-worker who didn't really want to sell his never-say-die '82 Toyota Tercel, & was offering $100/wk installment payments toward the $1400 purchase price.
I justified the cost by saying, "I'll use it to freelance, & make it pay for itself in a month." I beat my own goal with youthful insanity & caffiene. When I got married, I said, "Hey, there's no reason for us not to become divers, now!"
The poor little rice-burner (a shameful symbol to my native Illinois) is loaded to the hatchback with gear now. A dive trip to Mexico trashed the original engine, so I just BOUGHT ANOTHER!!! I think this little asian divemobile deserves all the love I can give it. Tercels are famous "1st dive cars" in my area (they usually succumb to salt-water from wet gear), but I defy my husband's '92 Ford Taurus to outlast my '80's relic. And while I'm at it, LONG LIVE MOTLEY CRUE!
