Knowing no matter what, that person (whether it is your significant other or best friend) will always be there for you and you for that person. Now when you can find a SO you have that with, as well as the chemistry, and the person is a diver, well they are a keeper.

It just happens. True love happens over time.

3dent and caymaniac have it figured out...there is a country song by Clint Black that speaks volumes...the name itself is "Something that We Do". In general, the refrain repeats the idea, "Love isn't someplace that we fall/find/have....it's something that we do."

Actions always speak louder than words.

I like the definition by M.Scott Peck that went something like...
Love is taking an active interest in the spiritual growth of another human being.

This means it is more of an action than an emotion.

Before I met my husband a few years ago I would have told you love was just a word with little meaning that more often than not was confused with the other 4 letter "L" word lust. Those who thought they were in love we're simpley relating to the excitement a new relationship brings or the obligation of commitment years of togetherness often brings.

Oh man was I sadly mistaken.. To me now, love means having an instant connection to someone, no forced conversation, the wanting to do for the person, it's a slight glance at dinner, a warm soft smile, the ability to say your sorry and truly mean it. Love is something few can write about, but many can read it with their hearts. I think 3Dent is right on the money with this one.

Now love for a child is something totally different.

Ok, guys just don't get it....maybe it is the chromosome thing. Just my opinion think what you want....

Love,
Love is unconditional. Forever giving never wanting anything in return. Honesty, loyalty, courage, commitment, honor, respect, integrity, always faithful, caring and, support. Being there to lend an ear when needed, a shoulder to cry upon. Arms that hold you when you are scared or to hold you close for security. Faith to step into the unknown and take a chance in what could make you so happy or hurt so bad. Love is blind not knowing what to expect one minute to the next. Love is opening yourself to vulnerable to someone else when they choose. Love is eternal, never ending and, never stopping.

Love is long suffering and kind. Love is not jealous,it does not brag, does not get puffed up.Does not behave indecently, does not look for it's own intrests, does not become provoked. It does not keep account of injury. It does not rejoice over unrighteousness. It bears all thing, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things.Love never fails. from the Bible 1 corinthians 13:4

anyway, you asked so i wanted to put in my 2 cents

I'm glad you did. :D

Baitedstorm gave a pretty good definition IMHO. It is a commitment, it is something two people grow into through that commitment. Personally, I don't think it is an immediate thing (like lust, which is also quite nice... for a while, or forever!).

I could also define it as something I haven't found in a long time!
