Are you sure you're certified to dive? Not trying to insult you, but many of your questions are things covered in an OW class.

Nothing wrong with a bit of reassurance when you're starting out is there?

Especially with something like breathing from an unserviced regulator that you don't know whats inside the tubes?

When you passed your driving test, did you know how to tell if a head gasket had blown on that car you were looking at purchasing?
 
BCS, don't sweat it. Heck the first time I fired up my USED regs I literally took the hoses off and cleared them (now that is not an issue). You will more than likely be just fine. Just purge them out good. And look at it on the positive side, make sure you chew them up well before swallowing. It makes the protein easier to digest. :D
