There has been much discussion of the DOT exemption on these cylinders in the past. I know they did renew the CT exemption, but many of us wondered if they would attempt to do the same for the DOT permit.

I believe that there might be an ongoing data collection and reporting requirement that would be difficult for a company that is no longer in business. We will just have to sit back and see what happens in 2012.

So our Canadian neighbors might be in for some great buys on quality used steel scuba cylinders.:crafty::crafty:

I have no idea why this matters, the world will be over in 2012. Google search 2012 for the truth!

But not until 13 November so there will be plenty of time to do some more diving - if your tank is still in hydro.

If you want to buy steel tanks... Either buy worthington (as they are still in business and a new hydro will be no problem) or buy LP tanks (regardless of original manufacturer) as 3aa means 3aa. Im sure PST tanks are just as good of quality as worthington... however, one cannot ignore that their future in retesting is uncertain.

Not A Faber Cylinder fan?

I have 4 PST tanks. No issues with any of them. 2 have been hydro'ed and no issued with either of those. My other 2 are up for hydro in 2010 sometime.

I had two PST HP120s. First one died due to over-expansion, probably caused by hot fills on land. Second one rusted badly within a year, due to typical wet fills on SoCal dive boats. I now dive with neutral buoyancy Al tanks... very old but still clean.

...well, sitting back/relaxing in the hope that someway/somehow my $ 2500 - $ 3000 worth of HP PST tanks won't turn into pumpkins at the stroke of midnight one evening in 2012 isn't a comforting thought! ...also, if memoery serves, the DOT exemption expires May 2011, not 2012. Unless I hear otherwise, MY plan is to re-hydro EVERYTHING April 2011 so at a minimum they will be 'legal' through May 2016.....them I can postpone a major temper tantrum until 2016 !
