Heh.... :-)

And I thought all those 400 level math courses in College that I had to take wouldn't be of any use.
Geez, I learned base conversion in high school and still didn't get it ;)

mike_s:
Here's the solution for you.

(10)hexadecimal=(11)15=(12)14=(13)13=(14)12=(15)11=16decimal=(17)9=(20)octal=(22)7=(24)6=(31)5=(100)4=(121)3=(10000)binary

:-) mike
:wtf:

Some scientists in Los Alamos called for you... something about Manhattan?

oh my goodness - I was totally off - taking the octol fragment and exponentially dissecting it by the octal binary fragment..

what was i thinking ;)

but thanks for attempting to explain it...i'm afraid it's still lost on me...but I can accept it with a bit of counseling

heh. I actually used to work at Los Alamos. (no I'm not kidding).

They are probalby called about some parking tickets by the lab security force group. I wasn't real good about parking where I was supposed to.

Oh. Well, that figures…

I bet you were trying to park by your own rules, which, BTW, probably make it more efficent to back out and can fit more cars in one area than the current plan.

But nobody ever listens to scientists when they're right, no? :eyebrow"

naw.. unless you were a big wig or one of those people who got to work at 6am, you had to park a long walk away. The "security force" is part of the University of California, which has the main contract for the lab. Unless you worked for the University, they couldn't enfrorce the tickets we learned. Kinda like when you were in colldge they would hold your grades over parking tickets..... :-) Since I wasn't a university employee, we took advantage of the situation and the rest is easy to figure out.

that place is really screwed up. The university system type atmosphere is what's wrong with the "(mis)management" of the lab.

to dig up an old thread here.... anyone got any more mind twister puzzles? this was fun a while ago. (I ran across this thread looking for something else.)

I'll go first.

What is the next number in this series?

1, 11, 21, 1211, 111221, 312211, 13112221, _________ <---?\

We'll see how those 400 level math and physics classes help :D
this one should be easier for the liberal arts majors also!

Okay, you asked for it:

One day a man received a parcel in the mail. Carefully packed inside was a human arm. He examined it, repacked it and then sent it on to another man. The second man also carefully examined the arm before taking it to the woods and burying it. Why did they do this?

Did both men that received the package have only one arm?

I got another one.

A woman is home alone and in her bed sleeping, she hears music and wakes up and immeadiately knows she is being robbed and shoots an intruder. What happened?
