I finally dove my BP/W, and I was able to sink with a full AL80 and no weight on my belt in pool water. Should I just ask for 5 or 6 lbs when I do my salt water dives this winter?

Depends! Maybe you'll still sink in the salt water too. You might wear a wetsuit or maybe if you are already using one, a thicker one and you'll need extra. It wouldn't hurt to bring some extra weight along just in case. Do a quick weight check before your first dive actually starts in the salt water and put any extra weight (if you need any) in your bc pockets. This will get you a ball park for the first dive. At the first 15' safety stop, do your hang and let your air out of your bc. If you sink give some weights to your buddy untill you get neutral. Next dive leave that weight behind.

Keep in mind your first dive you'll probably be breathing heavier because of anxity. This will most likely cause you to carry more weight then normal. Just keep diving and you'll get it on the money. Have fun!!!!

i dove the pool with the exact setup I am taking down south. 3mm shortie (Triple-L), AL BP, Venture Wing. Weightbelt.

If using the same equipment!! Typically there is a 5 lb difference between salt and fresh water.

From your original post you sank with a full AL80. Keep in mind for your safety stop it will be (mostly) empty. You have to add weigit for that as well.
