I happen to have a Casio dive watch (with dive log capabilities) from before DIR so I use that as backup to my Aladin Tec.

H2Andy:
that's the exact watch i have as a back up, except i removed the straps and use a bungee loop

i love it

How did you bungee loop it? Is there enough room between the pins and the watch casing to put the bungee? What size, 3/16"? I like the idea.

I think something like a Suunto D3 or D6 would make a really nice backup timer to the BT. D6 would be a little overkill (and pricey) for the job though.

Definately not overkill.. it is nice to have depth on both arms, espically while performing valve drills. It is extremely nice to glance at the left arm while the right is playing with the right and center posts..

Right now I dive a Stinger (in gauge mode) on the right, and a g-shock on the left, but upgrading to a D3 for back up ASAP.

dang... i forget the size ... what i did is i removed the strap, but left the pins. then, i looped the bungee under the pins, tied it off, and it was ready to go.

very easy to put on and take off with a drysuit on
