Hi all. I've been scouring Craigslist for tanks lately. I just missed a set of 2005 Faber 105s for $100 apiece. That hurt. I run across a lot of "I don't know what this tank is" posts. With the information stamped around the neck, how do I know what I'm looking at? I know each set of numbers/letters has a certain meaning, like a tire does, but I don't know what they mean. I'm looking for steel tanks, and I'm willing to try any size for the right price, I just need to know what to look for. Is there a certain place in the sequence that tells the cubic feet at the rated pressure that I can go by? A certain place that tells if it's steel or aluminum? Date it was manufactured? Etc.? Thanks in advance.

Here is some info for Catalina

Crown Markings of a SCUBA Cylinder

There is a more general description but I can not find it. Do a search as there are some other threads on how to id a cylinder (there are 4 such threads on the second page). Steel cylinders 3AA typically do not have the volume stamped on them. OMS cylinders made by Faber do, but most do not. The REE number which is stamped on steel cylinders is different for each volume which helps, but I do not have the list for each mfg.

That might be because sometimes it changes on a per cylinder basis. I have seen Faber LP95s with REE 72, 73, and 75.
