I'm about buy some dive insurance, but there are a lot of different options out there, and I'd like to know what's popular and trusted.

Please take the poll, and also please post your choice (or desired choice) so that I and others may get a better idea of what type of people choose the different insurance programs. I'm especially interested to know what options experienced divers tend to choose.

If you got the insurance through your job or some other special deal, then please don't take the poll as your insurance is more reflective of your circumstance than choice.

In case it matters, I've been a vacation diver so far and I'll dive in the Philippines next, but now that I've bought a lot of my own equipment I think I'll also start to dive here in the US.

Thanks.

I have DAN Master insurance. I chose it because of DAN's involvement into dive medical research, worldwide coverage, and commitment to the sport from both a recreaional and technical perspective. I'm sure other programs are also of good quality, but I knew with DAN, I wouldn't have to worry about my coverage.

I have the DAN Master as PerroneFord notes above so adeptly. I also have Dive Assure for equipment since DAN doesn't seem to recognize Alaska as being a part of the United States. DAN covers quite a bit, but is lame on the aspect of equipment coverage.

I got Dive Assure as it covered every thing I wanted or needed it to without having to put bits and peices together to make up a plan.

I've got the Master Plan. *heheh*
I spend a lot of time in Asia so I'm not covered by Canadian health care when I'm there. For the amount it costs me, its worth it to have. Just an extra bit of comfort and of course it makes me feel good to contribute to their research.

DAN's coverage is great until you file a claim. It took us 18 months of run around and finally the threat of a formal complaint to the state's Division of Insurance to get them to pay up.

Just my opinion, but based on my experience, if you are diving with DAN insurance, you are quite possibly a lot more naked than you think you are.

I should also add that DAN insurance is a wholly owned for profit subsidiary of the non profit DAN that does the research. So in short, DAN itself is into research and DAN Insurance is into making money for it's employees, owners and investors like any other insurance company so you are not supporting research with your insurance premiums nearly to the degree that you think you are.

DAN (SEAP) Preferred.

DA, very interesting info. I wonder if anyone else has had DAN claim filing issues and would be willing to share.
