What other underwater skills do we have to complete for DM?

I heard it's like securing and making teaching lines? Changing of full scuba equipment, is that true and what else is there?

Thanks

I think you have to map a dive site...I am not aware of anything else, but am not a dm at present.

Encouragements,

Try not to do all you swims in the same day. Practice. I wasn't concerned about passing so I did the big ones first. I also did my swims in a lake.

Not sure what you mean here...It is an endurance test, so at least the three swim parts (400, 800, and tread) must be done in the same swim event, with perhaps a few minutes rest inbetween.

That is how it was described to me...

That is not the case for PADI. I do not know about other agencies.

James

Well, I did not have to do them all in the same day.

With regards to the other things.... Yes map a dive site, create an emergency assistance plan, complete gear swap and all 20 basic skills. Also a demo for rescue skills.

So, you are saying there is nothing in the instructor handbook or other governing docs that makes it a requirement to the three (400, 800, and tread) in one day?

Is it possible that it was a requirement and is not one now?

I'm curious, because I specifically asked about this and got the answer I quoted above.

Oh well....

Oh well....

Couple of years since i did mine but i did them over two evenings, my colleague did all four in a morning and got all 20 points (b@$tard).

I made the dumb @$$ mistake of using my old fins and booties for the snorkel (which should have been my best), the zips were worn on the boot, so halfway down the pool they came undone, flaired out and acted like a parachute. I had to pause at each end of the pool and halfway down to rezip my boots, nightmare

There're no under water swim? I had to do 25m UW swim with no equipment (swimming googles allowed) but that was Nase. If not: Didn't it used to be included in the PADI DM as well? :06:

Did you do a gear switch? Does that include switching weight belts? Isn't that dangerous???

Jazz

You do have to exchange weight belts in the gear switch but it's not dangerous if you do it properly. It's much like removal and replacement of the weight belt in the skills, which you have to be able to demonstrate anyway.

As long as you don't drop the weights or hold them out in front or to the side you can do it okay. Part of this exercise is making sure you think it through and exchange gear propelry
