Boredom...:bored:

Have you ever dove a great lakes shipwreck? They're the best wrecks in the world and it is anything but boring to explore a ship that has been preserved for the last 150 years on the bottom of Lake Michigan.

I'm very proud of my freshwater diving...

Also, some of you warm water Sallies should try diving under the ice in January's 34 degree water. The vis is just as good as on the reef, if you're man (or woman) enough.

Oops almost forgot:

You run the risk of having dive buddies that will attempt to talk you into something silly like ice diving since they get bored in the winter. Don't get me wrong - I love my great lake diving but I do prefer to be able to be somewhat warm prior to and immediately after the dive.

'Swim ear', an infection in the ear duct, is common after diving fresh water. Although easily cured by rinsing the ears out with alcohol and warm water, it can can be amazingly painful if not treated.

Also enquire about the area and learn if snake spotting is frequent or rare.

That's a definate. There was at least one copperhead in the quarry when I did my open water dives. It took off into the water while our DMC was doing a missing diver rescue drill :buggy:
