I know lots of whale shark info here but I cant find the search function on the new scubaboard.

I am planning a cozumel trip this June, and flying home on a Tuesday (june 14) on a 7pm flight from cancun. Thinking about fitting in a whale shark snorkeling situation on that Tuesday, as non-dive day bc flying. Could I be back to Cancun airport by 530pm or so from a whale shark tour that day?

Assuming that's possible, for mid-June 2016 - where should I head, Isla Mujeres? isla contoy or Holbox? Obviously isla mujeres would probs be more convenient re: catching my flight...But where will the WHALE SHARKS be? And where do the tours leave from, can I catch a boat from Cancun?

Can anyone recommend a good tour operator? In order of importance: 1) environmentally sound, 2) support local operators, 3) chance of seeing whale sharks, 4) swimming time, 5) convenience getting to whale sharks from cancun, 6)everything else (dont want to stop at tourist places, dont care about amenities, how nice a bus is or whatever, totally comfortable in back of a truck)

I've done the whale sharks thing many times, but I can't remember exactly when we would usually get back.

Some of the operators leave from the northern ferry pier from Cancun, so you can meet them there and leave from there afterwards which would help with your time constraints instead of doing the pick up and drop off routine that some tours will include. It's going to take a little research on your end to figure it all out.

Most of the operators are calling it 'Isla Mujeres' for the location, keep in mind there is two things one is the location the tour originates from (where you go to meet them) and the 2nd is the actual location of the whale sharks. "Isla Mujeres" location of the whale sharks is generic, they are out there somewhere about 1 hour north by boat from Isla Mujeres, this is where almost all tours are going to end up going.

The origination is where to pay attention- the Cancun tours are from Cancun, some are picking you up from a hotel, others are having you meet at the pier skipping the pick up, the Isla Mujeres origination's can originate from Isla Mujeres meeting the boat there, they typically then cross across to Cancun and end up picking up the Cancun people and then head north to the whale sharks, the only reason you would pick the Isla Mujeres originations would be if you are staying on the island. Then there are the Holbox tours, forget these alltogether the pick ups are too far north and they either will end up out north of Isla Mujueres to view the sharks with everyone else or worse stay around Holbox in crappy green low viz waters.

Do some research where the real pick up is and find out their times and you're set

I don't think I would want to do a whale shark trip right before flying. Where are you going to change clothes? What are you going to do with your wet stuff? What if weather or something makes you miss your flight?

I would not do that trip the day of your flight home. Do it your first full day there so if it is cancelled, you have a possibility of trying again. The whale shark experience will be more memorable than 99% of scuba dives.

Hello. Do I have read correctly that you guys are based in Coz, but people staying on Coz must get on the 6:00 a.m. ferry to take the whale watching trip? Thanks.

Hello. Yes we are based in Cozumel, if you are in Cozumel you would have to catch the 6 am ferry. We can also pick up anyone from Playa Del Carmen to Cancun with our shuttle service. Blue H2o Cozumel has a MAY Special for Customers in Cozumel with a free shirt with all pre bookings.
