The secret is layer, layer, layer. You should have water temps around 78F. I take my full 3mil, a skin, a beanie and a Henderson Hyperstretch 5/3 hooded vest. I start the day and week in my 3mil and skin and wear my beanie (most of the heat you lose, you lose through your head). Towards the end of the day and week, I switch from beanie to vest depending upon how warm I feel. Also I try and bring my core body temp back up between dives by lying on the sundeck till I break al ittle sweat (and be sure and eat those great cookies...yeah..that's right....they help you warm up )
Having said all of that, I don't believe you would be too warm in a 5 mil. You can always flush the suit with sea water if you do. But if you go out and buy one, be sure and get the superstretch kind. No sense getting exhausted before you even get in the water.
