I need a NON neoprene beanie and all I come up with is this one...
XS Scuba Flex Beanie

And i can only find Small and regulars on-line? I need a Large.
The XS scuba Flex Beanie is only manufactured in small or regular per the XS scuba website. I found this company on an older thread Scuba Hoods - Dive Hoods & Scuba Diving Gear | Terrapin Wetsuits they make custom beanies out of neoprene or polartec fleese, from everything I have heard about them they are expensive but very nice. Another idea might be a Henderson Lycra hood, they are very easy to don and provide a little thermal protection but primarily they are rash gaurd (if you use one you need to hotwire some holes in the top to prevent the Conehead effect), I use one year round.

Thanks guys...I'll look at the Hendeson.

Anybody have any opinions on using one of those neosport xspan 1.5 mm long sleeve water shirt? I'm not sure if it keeps any chill off or not but a dive instructor here recommended it in lieu of a shorty

The responses are all over the place but if I decide to invest in a shorty I didn't read anything about how much more weight I'd need

Not much. 2-4lbs? Depends on the tank as well.

I dive with a 7mm + hood in California and board shorts in Maui, for which I carry 16 lbs (Steel 100) and 10 lbs, (AL80) respectively. I'm 6' 190lbs.
