After listening to the recommendations of those on the board, i decided to abort the squantz pond idea. We took the advice of others and dove West Hill today in New Hartford. We left from Brodie Park. The dive was really good. We saw quite a few bass and perch, as well as quite a few rock formations. We hit a max depth of 46 feet and had a total dive time of about one hour. All in all, a great dive with an easy entry and we never got bored. We plan on diving this location again sometime soon.
Regards,
Shane

Hey there! I'm about 40 minutes from West Hill Pond. I know some others on the board have dived it. In fact my LDS is about to use it this year for traing dives. If you ever want to buddy up let me know.

On the side of the lake near the boat renatl area is a sunken Island or Pinnacle. If you can rent a boat or get out here, you'll be treated to a neat cliff dive off the pinnacle down to maybe 50 ft. You can also dive out to the small island from here. This is always my favorite area dive. I also enjoy going of the public boat launch and heading out to the ledges.

Sounds awesome! If you ever want to rent a boat let me know.....I'm in. I'm still trying to hook up with some local divers in CT. I'm desperate actually......I'll buy lunch :11:

I did most of my advanced training at Westhill lake since it was private training and vis and conditions were always good. During one of our dives my instructors fin fell off the raft and sank to the bottom. It has his nick name "Brummy" on it. He moved out of state and I told him to keep the other fin because I will one day hold a find Mikes fin dive and find it for him. They were his old favorite fins. This dive is from the boat launch. So this year I may gather up a group of divers and do a straight out and back near the right side of the lake facing out from the boat launch (30-35 ft max).

Yes Im up for a dive and reserve Westhill when RI is out of the picture.

I'm looking for local divers myself:D

It sounds like there is still quite a bit more for me to explore out at West Hill. I'm up for a good dive any weekend pretty much. Let me know, and I'll be there. Possibly this Saturday? As for renting a boat, you can count me in for that. Just drop a PM if you want to make plans to dive. As long as you don't mind diving with a recently certified diver.
