Very intersting Doc and thanks for the response. This May trip last month was a "1st timer" trip so we went where most divers seem to go in West End on recomendations from friends who did Roatan from a West End base. You've given me something to think about.

However, I have a feeling that staying in the areas you mention and diving those sites is gonna cost a lot of $.

I believe that uou get what you pay for. At least on Roatan.

I amortize the total cost by the number of dives. My Roatan South side choice allows my certified gimpy self 27 dives per week. Some fo more, some less, same cost.

For $250/day, i get a nice room over water on stilts, 3 all you care to eat meals, as much diving as you wish (5+ a day), airport transfers, absolutely NO concern about theft or safety (never lock my door). Do the math,

I go on vacations to dive. A lot.

Update... Just looked into booking Splash Inn for May 2024 as now is when we can book the best flights for the lowest airmiles and their refund policy has changed!

Prior Policy:

New Policy:

That is a deal killer for us looking to book about a year in advance when we have to get our flights locked in early on airmiles (that are fully refundable). We'll look elsewhere for more amenable cancellation refund policies around West End with places to stay and dive ops and see what we can find.

The collection of 100% non-refundable deposits should not be viewed as a profit center. I could understand their prior 2-week policy to some extent but this? Trying to book for early May when the island is empty? Nope. Heck, we can book everything at our preferred accommodations and dive op in Cozumel and get all $ refunded as long as we cancel within 48 hours of arrival!

I came here looking for reviews and info on Splash Inn. I was considering them but not after seeing the non-refundable 100% deposit. That’s crazy for those of us who plan trips ahead.

Did you find another place to stay and dive on Roatan or just go with another Coz trip?
