I HAVE A TLS350 AND WITH a polerstretch300 undergarment i need 38# for the suit alone in fresh water. That garment for me is probably good to high 40's in water temp. To go into salt water you will need even more weight. Probably 12#. I also have a polarstretch 100 and it needs 23# so the undies make a big difference. If you dont k now the tls is a shell suit and not a neopreme.

Seems like way to much weight with a BP/W. With my Knighthawk BCD I was using 32lbs when dry diving a 80cuft aluminum, with fleece underwear in fresh water. With my BP/W with SS backplate, I am at 18lbs in fresh water. I am diving with 10lbs on my weight belt, and 8 lbs on my cam bands using a 28lb wing. Wing has no problem keeping rig on top of water. I keep my weight belt to the inside of my crotch stap so if it accidentally unclips, it gets caught by the crotch strap, so if I had to actually dump weight I would have to release both buckles. Some may not agree with this practice, but I prefer to not "accidentally" dump weight.

40 indeed seems high

we are similar weight, I am 195 and 5'11"
With either DUI drysuit, BP wing, 300 weight UG and steel 120, I dive with 14# plus an aluminum backplate. This is perfect. I often put in 16# when with students. I can't understand why you would need 40#

If you need anywhere near that amount of weight, you should consider going with a Deep Sea Supply plate, as you can add on stainless steel weight plates. For a medium sized backplate, the plates add 8 pounds.

Thanks for the replies! I ended up ordering a DUI Weight & Trim Classic and will initially be putting all of the weight there (aside from 2lb ankle weights). I'll start out by renting the weights to see exactly how much I need for Puget Sound and may move some of it to other places for better balance. It's possible that the dry suit I was renting was at an extreme of positive buoyancy, although the one I have feels about the same. Going diving next weekend and will experiment with the weights :)

^^ Good call, let us know how it works out
