Had a great time, as always. Daughter's first trip and while she doesn't dive, we took her to Chankanaab and after a day of snorkelling she's pretty much sold on the idea of scuba.

Good news, Bad news - that'll cost you! :eyebrow:

Heh, not as much as you might think. I've piled up enough kit over the years to outfit a couple of divers, and she's tall enough to wear my dive skins. As for the course, I think she can pay if she wants to take it. In my mind she'll take it much more serious if it's her money on the line.

I was there last week and we were in 82 degree water the whole time. I was fine with a 3mil shortie but most of the others had shorties and skins. There was lots of tiny brown jellies around but I didnt notice any problems because of them.

Just returned yesterday night... Water was 80 at 60 feet, and 82 at the surface.

Calvin,
We go the same times every year. The temps for Cancun, Isla Mujeres and the Riviera Maya in late April / early May were 82-84. I wore a 3/2 full, my dive buddy had a tshirt and swim trunks (he is also bald and no hood). I was comfortable to warm, but i liked the idea of protection from a full suit. After I had it on, I was fine. My dive buddy was fine too. Back during our October/November trip he bought a 3/2 shorty and loves it. Seeing where you are from, the water should be like a bathtub! Most people I talk to are fine with a 3/2. A skin is ok but you may tend to get chilly on extended deep or repetitive dives if you don't get a chance to dry off or warm up during your SI.

I dive a local pool. It was 81F today in the pool today. It feels pretty cold. I think people don't realize that, 81F is 17F below body temperature.

The other side of that, of course, is that some cooling by the environment is part of the design. If you were to dive in 98 degree water, I'll bet you would be very uncomfortable.
