Mainly, it's just better viz than the rivers and smaller lakes -- i.e. you *can* see your hand in front of your mask.
Actually, in certain places when ice diving, the visibility is better than any WWW has ever been experiencing. Can't however tell, you wouldn't believe me:14:
 
well I say what you are use to 45 but it does get chilly willy ,try to stay with a chill if you go diving warm you wont go to cold. I like the quarrys at dept all year, there about 40 at 120 feet
