I'll be diving near Jacksonville in several weeks and the dive shop said the water temp will be in the low 80s. Can this be or should I expect worse?

I don't know where he got his info, but it's MUCH colder than that in the coming weeks. 60's in November and December, and down into the 50's in January.

Here's a chart that may help you decide how much farther south you need to go to hit warmer water.

Thanks. I got that from the dive boat, which does not instill confidence.

That's funny ....I thought my computer said 81 degrees this weekend when I looked on the bottom .Normal in Jax is not 60s until Dec and some times until mid January.I have dive logs from the last 4 years thanx to Oceanic(I never logged before it do can't tell ya)We can expect above 72 until the first freeze in Dec.There is also a place to get warm water year round in Jax ,it's by going way out offshore where 70s and 80s year round are common thanx to 84 degree gulfstream eddies.NODC gets thier data from a sensor in the outflow of the St. Johns that is shallow causing greater temp variances .It was 89 there a coupla weeks ago when I had 84 top and 77 thermocline on bottom.

Thanks, 100. Other sites showing current temps in the region are consistent with your experince. It's nice to know I won't have to pack a drysuit. I'll layer wetsuits if I have to.

We are diving in the 50s here w/7mm. You must be spoiled...:D

Dive partner your in annapolis? I was just at mikes crab house in riva saturday. I think the op in jax beach is atlantic divers.

That's good to know. I never thought you could trust any charts put out by the National Oceanographic Data Center or the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration. :D

The chart does state that those are average temperatures. YMMV.

I was booked on Atlantic Divers but it looks like the weather won't cooperate.

Airfare, et all was paid for by the folks that I'm speaking to on Monday so it looks like I'm traveling anyway. Anything else going in in JAX this weekend, other than the football game?
