Pills are for wusses, buck up, walk it off, no pills, N is a pill free zone.
Some people have chronic hay fever, some don't. I take it you don't.
I tryed the video and it was great, they should show that on the OW course, would have saved me a few ear aches.
I never had equalization problems, only ear infections when I didn't add alcohol & vinegar after diving, but I know it has helped many. I don't know why the Insts don't suggest it?

If you feel like you have water in your ear, you may have middle ear damage.

Middle ear damage can also result in reverse block.

The pressure difference is greatest in the first 33 feet. This results in divers having the most difficulty when doing shallow dives, and changing depth often.

If you continue to experience difficulty, I'd strongly recommend an ENT. A ENT diver would be even better! :D

Ear injuries are common in diving, in fact I think the #1 injury. Take care of your ears, or your diving days will be short lived.

Dandy, I cannot agree with you and I would not take "pills" or self medicated over the counter medicines as a crutch for diving related problems like ear canal equalization problems without talking to a doctor about it. Are you a doctor? And to answer your question, whatever ailments I have or don't have--I don't take pills, medicine or anything, I follow my own advice--thank you. Walk it off!

I just watched the whole UWTV program DandyDon linked and I have to say its a lot of good information there. For one, he identified a cause of vertigo that I had never even thought of...

Video was pretty informative. And definately filled with some very waxy ears. (especially that old dude... damn) I dove again today with no problems. Just ascended a couple feet if I had troubles and it all went smoothly. Still got the weird water in the ear feeling and had to bang it out of my head, but I was able to equalize without any problems. Hopefully it was just my inexperience that caused the problem initially. I'm diving again tomorrow. Guess we'll see how that goes.

My bet is its only gonna get better the more you dive :p
Ive snorkled and kinda skin-dived a lot when I where younger (the kinda skin diving you do when youre just splashing around and find out you need to get down to 20 feet and such to have a look) and still get that water in my ear feeling every now and then, but it dont really affect my equalizing..
