When you say for 5 min, does that mean thar I just add som drops in my ear, let I stay there for 5 min, or should I just let It stay until it dried out by it self?

And why not any glycerin? I just made the formula, but added a tiny bit of glycerin.
Fill your ear leave it for 5 min dump it out in a Kleenex or TP.

Glycerin does not contribute to goal a or b. Its been a !omg time since I read the articles, but seems like USN determined glycerin could contribute to wetness, but probably wouldnt hurt in small quantities.

I'm not a doc, just a nerd. I just tried the links and one of them is dead, so you'll have to do your own looking if you wanna run it down.

I've found that 5 min is about the amount of time that it will take for the ear beer to warm up to your body temp and not feel cold/cool. If you don't have a watch available this can be an alternative way to track the time.

I also make my own 50% Isopropyl alcohol 50% white vinegar, no added glycerin. I use 90% isopropyl BTW.

I've been using EAR PRO oil pre-dive, with success. It's a slightly sticky mineral oil with oregano oil (smells nice) in a little 20ml squirty bottle. Seems to encourage water to not settle inside my ear during and after the dive

Do you ever use cotton pick to clean you ear between two dives?

No, very bad idea. Even though cotton buds seem soft, they can still scratch the delicate skin in your ear canal. These tiny scratches can create an opening for infection.

I'm pretty sure the entire world uses q-tips (aka cotton buds) to clear out ear-wax... Just dont ram them down your lugholes too far 😅

part of an article from today's NYTimes:

Don’t: Use Q-Tips

You may be tempted to use Q-Tips to scratch an itch or remove earwax. But resist the urge.

Skin cells in the ear are “almost like a conveyor belt,” Dr. Francis said; when new skin cells grow, dead cells migrate outward and carry earwax with them, he said. So cleaning your ears yourself usually isn’t necessary, and using a cotton swab comes with risks.

These small wads of cotton can push wax into the ear and cause buildup, Dr. Francis said. If a swab goes too far into your ear, it can puncture the eardrum and cause hearing loss, Dr. Govil said. And in rare cases, the force from pushing the swab inside your ear can dislocate the tiny bones behind the eardrum that help transmit sound through the ear, Dr. Abdul-Aziz said

I use EarShield BEFORE the dive, and EarBeer AFTER the dive.
Shield protects it, Beer disinfects it, (where "EarBeer" is 50% white vinegar and 50% isopropyl alcohol).

As for equalization, the phrase "early, often and gently" was beaten into my thick skull. As said earlier, use all three methods. Chewing gum helps, just as it helps when flying. As I'm walking to the exit to splash, I equalize, and again as soon as I let go of my mask and regulator as I go under water. That first ten feet is absolutely critical, it's the most drastic change in pressure.
