We love Nudies too. In fact it's the one critter we feel qualifies our dives - we don't really feel like we've dived a "proper" dive if we've not been able to find at least one Nudie. OK, I know it's weird but it's the game my wife and I play with one another - you know, who saw the first Nudie? I reckon it could become a TV show with appropriate funding and coverage :D

Anyway, you might find the Sea Slug Forum site interesting.

Well, you're not alone. There are a lot of nudie lovers out there. Being on Catalina, where nudies tend to be much fewer in number and found mainly at depth, I've learned to live with dives where I don't see one. Given that, don't expect my Nudibranchs of SoCal DVD very soon...

It would be a very short DVD.
You could go to a Jolla Shores to see some, but you had better bring your own tanks, so you don't get a smog fill!! -N

I'm so disappointed to announce that the Echinoderms of So Cal DVD is now ready for purchase. That means I'll have no excuse to stay out of the bars here on Catalina this weekend... except my state of poverty! Don't worry, I'll get started on the Wrasses of SoCal soon, then the octopuses and squid and...

The great thing is that I put all four 22-min episodes onto one disc and am going to sell it that way for a while. 88 minutes of echinoderms for your viewing pleasure and it will only set you back a mere $35 plus California sales tax and postage.

Check out the web page on the Echinoderms of SoCal for further info.

Congratulations Dr. Bill!
I'm definitely going to pick up a copy .:coffee:

Hey Dr. Bill! How do I order the final release? :) The early release I snuck away with is VERY good!

Can't wait for the Wrasse DVD, I am ever fascinated by cleaning behavior and I've heard that Seniorita's, and to some extent Rock Wrasse act as cleaners in our waters. It's a behavior I've not been able to witness yet...

Hey, Sean (Paradicio)... glad you enjoyed the pre-release copy. Thanks again for the use of your pix of the warty sea cucumber spawning. I have tweaked a lot of the narration and the timing in the final release version, but the footage is largely the same.

When you're in the dive park next, look for clusters of blue blacksmith midwater. You will almost always see a single senorita in the middle of the group cleaning them. They (and rock wrasse) also clean topsmelt and other baitfish near the surface, and halfmoon near the bottom as well as garibaldi midwater. However, they don't use cleaning stations like many of their wrasse relatives do in the tropics. And I'm always on the lookout for a lovely senorita of the human persuasion.

Yep, Nudies of SoCal will have to wait until I get in some more diving on the mainland and the northern Channel Islands where they are easier to find and film.
