Only wifey and I at this time. We will be diving with Christi and Blue xtsea so has to be somewhere where they will pick us up

WildBill... While not a VRBO you should check out the Casa Mexicana. If there are only 2 in your party I think you'll find the Casa to be cheaper than most VBRO's while you enjoy full service daily and an unbelievable breakfast buffet included. We have stayed there stay there for 2+ weeks at a time for the past 14 years or something and it is not uncommon to meet other guests who stay there for a month or two (in one room of course). If you require 2 rooms or more, a VBOR will certainly be your better bet.

Bill, Casa Mexicana is one of the hotels I mentioned that I work with -

WildBill.. You won't regret a stay at the Casa Mexicana and if you're diving with Blue XT-Sea Christi certainly would not lead you astray. Book it, forget about it, and enjoy! We just returned from 2 weeks at the Casa and logged 13 days of non-stop diving as the weather was PERFECT. It sucks to be back north but I do enjoy steering others to great places to stay and great dive ops... The Casa Mexicana is our home in Cozumel and Blue XT-Sea resides among that top 10 that we all fight about from time to time.

Couple of questions about Casa Mexicana. Pool, several reviews says it's really small-comments and or pictures would be great? Breakfast sounds nice but do they have bacon every day? (Yep, sounds petty but we gotta have some pork per wife).

Stayed at Casa a couple times and they had bacon everyday. One day they even had ribs, it just happened to be my last day so I pigged out.

The pool is very small, really the only thing I don't like about the hotel.

I wouldn't even call the pool a pool. More of a patio water feature that nobody will say anything about if you get in. But we go to dive so it doesn't matter to us.

It's indoors on the second floor, about 10 X 20 feet, and knee deep, isn't it?

Well that's a deal killer. After a hard day of driving we like to chill at the pool with a beverage.

Any idea on a budget?

Reason I ask is there might be more possibilities available to you. Just went through this for our upcoming trip. I heavily looked at Hotel Cozumel and Casa Mexican. Liked the closer location of Casa Mexican to downtown but being a 10 day trip the beach area of Hotel Cozumel won out over Casa Mexican as it allows something more to do on a long trip than being stuck downtown with nothing but that small pool area for relaxing at. Hotel Coz in the end was almost the same price (explained further down), it is larger, has a great pool, has a beach area, offers shore diving/ease of a weight check dive and is still walkable to downtown.

Both offer breakfast included and while Hotel Cozumel is just a little bit more, with some shopping you can get Hotel Cozumel for a pretty close price. I got it on Orbitz for $88 a night (versus $77 a night for Casa mexican), saw it on Groupon for similar prices and at one time they had the all inclusive version for about $108. Hotel Coz is further from downtown, but we actually enjoy the walk into downtown, gives us a nice evening stroll, more than once we planned on walking to the square and taking a taxi back but almost everytime skipped the taxi back because the stroll back was pleasant and nice after a too much indulgent dinner meal. :-}

So depending on how much time til your trip you might shop around and find some deals that give you some more options. Also I do a lot of travel and have found airbnb is now far superior to VRBO, they just aren't even close anymore in comparison. Airbnb really rewards hosts for providing excellent stays, I found over the last 2 years this has really transformed the quality and experience of airbnb rentals over VRBO. If you're only using VRBO I would suggest looking at airbnb also.
