Looks like our group will be about 20 or so divers large, so when you see a bunch of folks arriving at once it may be us.

We are staying in Destin (more interesting places to eat and there's the beach) and I may not necessarily take my vehicle form Destin to Vortex. But if I do, I'll be in a white Toyota Tundra 4X4.

My head is as slick as a billiard ball, goatee on my ugly face.

As far as what to wear in the water -- I was comfortable back in October with 3mm fullsuit, 3/5 hooded vest, 3mm gloves, 5mm booties.

I'll be the guy in the black wetsuit (ha ha). I'm dragging my big ole aluminum 100's down which are metallic blue.

Probably will bring my big green DAN pelican box with oxygen unit with me.

Surface intervals may be CHILLY!

See you all there tomorrow! I'll be in a black alero two door with kentucky plates. I'll probally be there around 9:00 or 9:30.

Cheers

I could not believe the number of folks that were out Saturday at Vortex! It was COLD and rainy and breezy. On the surface you were going to be cold and wet, even if you didn't dive. Vortex water was the usual Vortex water, but surface intervals were miserable.

And I had a great time.

And so did a LOT of other folks apparently, since practically every place to park was taken and there were lots of bubbles and heads in the water.

Went back Sunday and discovered that one of our shelters had been blown away. Sunday was colder, but dry and Sunny and that made all the difference in the world.

And I had a great time. I was standing around with my gear on early in the afternoon trying to get someone in our group to do one more dive before we had to pack up and head home, but couldn't find any takers.

I'm sure I saw some of you guys that said you were also going, but you got lost in the crowd.

The folks at Vortex really seemed to go out of the way to accommodate the divers. They opened up their dorm for changing clothes (HEATED AND WITH SHOWERS!!). I never paid a cent for hot chocolate or hot cider at the shop and never had to wait on an air fill.

VortexBlue(Shane) and the guys over there really are trying to turn the place around. Glad you guys had a great time out there.

I dove Jackson Blue on both Saturday and Sunday with similar conditions, water was great, even if the surface temps were horrid.

I dove Vortex one year, in February, when the air temp was 34 and it was drizzling, with a 10mph wind out of the north. It was cold enough that the water was steaming. It felt like a bathtub, and there was no one there to kick up the bottom. Very pleasant. :) Getting out, I bundled up in a dive parka and a knit cap, and then went over to the dive shop and got some coffee. :thumb:

Plenty steamy looking on Saturday

Have a look:
