Sounds spendy. I flew from Vancouver to Seattle, picked up a one-way rental at Sea-Tac then drove back to Vancouver once I was done w/ stuff in WA. Not the most convenient, but likely less expensive than your jaunts, and well worth effort.
Yeah, I was going to Lakes Huron and Superior so I needed my own vehicle.

I'm still confused about the quarantine plan
Just make it up in the ArriveCan app using any old address near your destination. They dont ask about it much if you have the neg test results. Do make sure your test method is on their list.

I thought they had gotten rid of the quarantine plan but I guess not. I drove into Canada last month. It was pretty straight forward (fill out form with vaccination information, negative results and I used my friend's address for quarantine plan). It just sucks that Canadians can't do the same thing currently

I'm driving across the border on Friday again so I'll see how it goes again.

No issues getting into Canada for me. I crossed Queenston-Lewiston bridge. Waited less than 10 minutes, sadly NEXUS lanes are still closed wasn't a big deal. Filled out the ArrivalCAN form with COVID vaccination information.

Drove up to Wiarton, Ontario to dive the Manasoo. Awesome wreck.
