video showing diver's death - should be broadcasted?

I think the man died doing somthing he believed in. From all of the stories I have read about this event, I honor him and his efforts, I wish his family well and peace and ask God embrace him. My he Rest in Peace.

Part of pushing the limits, as Dave Shaw did, is saying that we as human beings refused to be held back by our limitations. This great sport of ours was based on learning from the mistakes and sacrifices by those who went before us. Not learning from an accident makes the loss all the worse.

Show it to whomever wants to see it, and let the individual viewer take from it what he wants. Knowledge, ghoulish thrills, the feeling that the practice should be outlawed, whatever. I'm not sick in the head. I just think we all make our own choices. And to do so, every bit of info usually helps.

When I go, if someone has a video of it, I don't think I'll be in a position to care if it gets shown. (as long as I don't soil myself on the video.....)

I'm in shock that a diver would attempt to do ANY type physical activity at that depth? What type of narcosis must be happening at that depth? How would anyone have enough air, or spare tanks attached, to do the decompression stops? How long would it take you to get to the surface? I finding this a bit hard to believe. :11:

Having seen the video on a local documentary, with comment from Don Shirley (the deep safety diver on the dive):

I did not see a lot in the video that will be worthwile as far as learning is concerned. More could be gained from Don's comment on the dive and what went wrong.

Therefore I do not think much will be gained from broadcasting the video.

I tried to get a copy of it to attach, but they have it pretty well protected.

As for my vote, the people of the world, especially the law makers, won't know what to do with the information. Just what we need is a bunch of new laws and regulations.

I just got back from a trip to Florida. It was extremely depressing to find out the Florida Dept. of Environmental Protection now regulates when and how divers can get into the water in State Parks. They have become the experts and those of us who actually do the sport are just the stupid tourists. The new rules were un-workable and I ended up passing on diving in state parks. Its funny to find out the rules for regulating SCUBA are not published in any public document, they are just passed around to the park rangers who are now the experts. I have only profanity to pass on about this so will end here.
