my instructor and I both think it was a more mental than physical issue. what got me through was not counting the laps, just waiting for him to say I was done. doing backstroke, water kept splashing into my mouth and I had to basically ignore it lmaooo, that part sucked. a mind over matter type thing.
Everything in diving is mind over matter. I have seen more students bail out of classes over mental blocks than physical limitations. Short of running out of gas, if you don't mind, it don't matter.

Yeah, that likely helped. I've done a few fairly intense swim tests over the past couple of years. On one, I had to count laps, and it was timed. Another, I didn't have to count laps. That one was much easier overall despite having more actual tests and more swimming.

It’s been really hard to just relax and go slow. That’s the worst part. When I kick too fast then it throws off my trim a bit. And my buoyancy’s all rattled because my breathing is off. Once I finally reeled it in, everything went really really well. But man does it take a lot of trial and error to figure out how to calm my brain down.

Was this for diving? I’d fail a timed one hands down…lmao

Just keep working on it so you can ace the timed test for Dive Master and your way to Instructor. Doesn't hurt to set lofty goals. :D

(Idk what other forum to post this in)

I can't stop smiling, figured I'd post this to people who may understand lmao.
Might sound stupid, but I passed my swim test yesterday! One I miserably failed the first time LOL. Psyched myself out, and was soooo scared on my way to class yesterday. Can't believe I'm gonna do my OW dives....never thought I'd get this far so soon, honestly. Yay!

For those familiar with SpongeBob: watch
Aoo!

Yes, but not for a cert. The timed one was to be able to dive with a youth oriented dive group. The other was to be on the volunteer dive team at a local aquarium/rescue hospital.
