Todays dive at Venice yielded 4 megs + 100 small teeth, the largest a 4 1/4" chocolate w/ perfect serrations.
The conditions were; seas 2', viz none til you about 20' then opened to 6-8', water temp 82
There is alot of sea weed that is scouring the bottom expossing teeth. Search around these areas.
There is a slight hint of red tide, but not bad, no massive fish kill and didn't bother my sinuses.
Dive was 76 min. most teeth were found in 23-24'
Pic to follow
Will try to get out tomorrow

Way cool. I need to get back to Venice. I've given most of my good teeth away to Boy Scouts for doing good deeds and neighbor kids for just being good kids.

Dang! Now I see this post and I cancelled my plans to go over there tomorrow morning.

I did a quick search and found a report from Venice, dated 6/19, that says the beach at Venice has been reported free of red tide. Seems there are low to moderate concentrations of the stuff from Clearwater, south to Sarasota. link to article: http://www.venicegondolier.com/NewsArchive3/061905/vn1.htm

Exactly - a stated in this Mote Red Tide update, no red tide cells were found from Venice Beach south. We've had no significant rains for a week or so now and the nitrogen thats been feeding the last outbreak is starting to dissipate. Better get it while the gettin is good:

It'll be back after the next rains... the golf courses have all put down fresh rounds of fertilizer loaded with nitrogen that you can be sure will run off into the rivers that let out into the Gulf near the beaches!

...hmmm. No laws regarding this type of runoff? :11:

Since this is a new thing brought in with the recent development boom thats been going on for almost exactly the same amount of time as this never ending algae bloom.... nope, nothing on the books regarding laws and fertilization yet.

If anyone is confused as to why fertilization of lawns, golf courses, etc., is creating this problem please post and I'll explain. :)
