Obviously we have an eddy reaching in to warm us up but the current this weekend on the Vandenberg was at least 5 knots! 150' viz and the temp is up to 75 but just a huge workout to get down there and then hide out next to the steel. Hopefully it will break off by the end of the week and leave the blue water behind.

Just curious, how did you measure the current? Were you swimming in that current at any time while not holding onto a downline or while not in the lee of the wreck?

no, we hang a 28 lb lead over the side of the boat and it was streaming straight out behind the boat and you could barely pull it in. The mooring ball went completely underwater and you could barely hold onto the traverse line or the down line using both hands.

Were you diving with a dive operation or off a private boat? Those kinds of currents boarder on dangerous dive conditions. When the balls are underwater on the wrecks up here, we won't let our divers in the water for safety reasons.

Good Diving,

how did you swim against that current. A good rescue swimmer in peak condition can only manage to swim in a two mph current for a short time.

No, no swimming involved here. You stay with the traverse line and we aborted the dive after seeing the current went down to deck level. Often times you lose the current on deck but this was a cross current and it was just sweeping the deck clear. Hopefully this weekend will be better.

Went on Sunday. Current was bad, it claimed 2 snorkels and a weight belt. It wasnt diving, more like clawing and climbing.

As of yesterday the Stream had moved out to 17 miles S of Sand Key so it is a definite maybe. Currents this week have been strong but vis has been way high.
