I only needed 3 lionfish tails to complete my 25 tails to qualify for tier 1 prizes of the FWC LF Tournament. ( I really just want the included special coin that allows me to catch extra lobsters !) It's been really tough to find Lionfish in Jup & WPB, we have been 'controlling' them very well. Was 80° bottom temps, gentle 1 knot current and blue top to bottom viz.
1st drop was a big empty zero with no lions, I was pretty glum. Capt Kenny Eppert for ScubaWorks, pulled out his phone and said he's dropping me on one of his secret spots and there's at least 3 lions there > guaranteed. I splashed and in 10 minutes I found the 3 lions I needed and was doing fist pumps celebrating under water. I doubled my tip because without a great dive boat captain, you could have a really lousy day.
