Hi,

Just got some HP steel 100 tanks.

They came with pro/combo DIN/Yoke style valves.

Markings on valve:
1. "Harrison"
2. "China"
3. "13/09" presumably Sept 2013 mfg date

Stickers came with it for 'cleaned for oxygen or enhanced air service', and has the right color O-ring on the yoke.

The tank-side O-ring is black though... should that be tan? (Viton?)

The machining looks reasonably good as does chrome-plating.

Came with both 3000 and 3442 psi relief plugs. I'll be using the 3442.

Thoughts? Is 'made in China' enough to avoid using them, i.e. get non-China made valves? After all they are from the same country/biz culture that poisons babies to make a few more quick yuan.

Morally no....it's purchase being your tacit involvement in Globalism, by which Americans jump at the chance to purchase cheap goods in the short run, and ignore the long run issues of a lost manufacturing base in America, jobs relegated to service industry at the whim of others....

I try my best to buy USA. Followed by:

2. North America (which is USA, Canada, Mexico and a few others)
3. All of America (excluding a very few communist and dictatorships)/Europe/Japan
4. Any democratic country abiding by at least some environmental and labor laws
5. My last resort but it often is what it is, Chi-Coms

I was abroad some time back. I was told by a citizen of the country I was visiting, that "we like Americans, we just do not like your country." Okay, well, I think Americans are their countries. But, likewise, I like Chinese, and I like their country, I just do not like their government.

I don't trust China for anything that can kill me.

Not toothpaste, not food, not high pressure gas fittings.

If your tank valve fails (bad threads/machining,) you can die or lose part of your body. It might be just fine, but they're going to have to really pick up their quality over the long term before they earn my trust.

You will find Harrison valves in a great many rental fleets. It is a "Sherwood" style valve. It's a decent valve. Parts are easy to get. I prefer the Teflon to Teflon seal in that valve over the Teflon to o-ring seal in other valves just because I've had less issues with them. YMMV.
Moral considerations aside, I wouldn't have a problem just leaving it as it is.

OP: For my original question, I'd much rather see a constructive suggestion for a known-high-quality, made-in-USA valve, (brand, part #, link?)... or info on WHAT makes for quality in a valve... than a patriotic sermon... It would be much more constructive to point out any specific non-China products to recommend and why?
I didn't know the Harrison valve was made in China, till I got it and saw the small marking on it.
...
For example, this link was highly educational as to the ins and outs of what makes for a quality valve. This is pretty convincing info.
http://www.xsscuba.com/valves_xsfeatures.html The Harrison valve I asked about does not have at least some of these features, maybe virtually all of them.

I'm an old fart and remember when "Made in Japan" meant cheap, poorly made goods.

Hardly the case today, it it ?

Globalism is like ****, it is going to happen. Get used to it and rather than cry and complain about it, figure out a way to add value

FYI Oring color means nothing. Viton comes in about 20 different color and so does mystery materials. I would probably use that valve but I sure as hell would not trust their "O2 cleaning" nor the quality of any of the soft parts.

Globalism is a sickness....each US company engaged in it, should see this as an act of greed that is essentially selling out America and the Children of America. Each consumer that has a choice between American Made goods, and goods that are from China, needs to stop and consider whether the price difference is worth destroying the future for. This is beyond selfishness, as the lifetime globalist consumerism of you and your personal network of friends, could very well mean many millions of dollars that left America forever, becoming part of the POWERBASE of manufacturing dominance that will DICTATE our future as a country that does not make anything, but that only buys from others.....The idea that we can ADD VALUE, is what the corporate ownerships would like the peasants to believe, to make them willing participants in this future.......The sad truth is that believing that we should desire to ADD VALUE, is positionally very much like the dystopian future characterized in the Sci fi Movie "Matrix" , where the masses have become no more than a "power-source" for those in control ( power source like a lump of coal, with no more intrinsic importance for each person than for a lump of coal).....and here our "masses" are purposely "opting in" to being plugged into the Globalist system...

Just say NO to ALL Chinese goods!!!! This is not "patriotism", as the leaders of the US have already sold out our futures as they were told to by the corporate rulers in control. And if you think this sounds like a "conspiracy theory", then in fact, you have already allowed corporate owned news and mis-information strategists, to plug you into the Globalist system. If you know this is all happening, but can't be bothered by it..there is a "great" term you can use to describe yourself---> You are an Apocaloptimist :) I suppose that is better than just being stupid, or deluded....but each of us SHOULD FEEL a Duty to get our networks of friends involved in boycotting Globalism and Chinese goods.
